THE FOUNDRY

HOW THE FOUNDRY WORKS

Each month, we take one important part of the operation and look at it closely.

We learn the moving parts, examine what’s in place on our own farms, find the gaps and bring in an expert to help us ask better questions.

Then we put what we’ve learned to work.

Over the year, that work adds up.

THE MONTHLY MECHANISM

WHAT A MONTH CHANGES

01

LOOK AT WHAT’S IN PLACE

We take the month’s topic back to our own operations and look at what we already have in place, what’s missing and where we could be better prepared.

02

WORK THROUGH IT

We learn the moving parts, compare notes and bring in a guest expert who knows the topic well. We can ask direct questions and figure out what actually applies to our own farms.

03

PUT IT TO WORK

Then we do something with it. Run the numbers. Organize the information. Document a process. Put a new system in place. Make the call. Have the conversation.

The point is to finish the month with something further ahead than when we started.

THE MONTHLY RHYTHM

TWO MORNING COFFEES A MONTH

THE FOUNDRY HAPPENS ONLINE, SO YOU CAN JOIN US RIGHT FROM HOME. NO TRAVEL. JUST GRAB A COFFEE AND PULL UP A CHAIR.

01

FIRST COFFEE

We bring the month’s topic to the table, break down the moving parts and start looking at how it applies to our own operations.

02

SECOND COFFEE

We bring in a guest expert who knows the topic well. We ask direct questions, compare notes and dig further into what we’re seeing on our own farms.

In between, we take the work home.

Look at our own numbers. Find what’s missing. Talk it through with the people involved. Come back with better questions.

Then we put what we’ve learned to work.

A LIVE WORKING SYSTEM

THE FOUNDRY FARM FILE

The work we do each month has somewhere to go.

We’ll build your Farm File — one organized, live place for the important information on your operation.

Access it from your phone or computer, and share it with the people on your farm who need it.

Each month, we add to it: numbers, documents, contacts, processes, calculations and plans.

By the end of the year, you’ve built a Farm File your operation can actually use — and a system you can keep adding to.

THE ROOM

THERE’S VALUE IN THE ROOM

We know how we do things on our own farms.

But we don’t always know how other good operators are doing them.

That’s a big part of The Foundry.

We get to compare notes. Hear what’s working somewhere else. Talk about what didn’t. Ask questions. And sometimes hear an idea or a question we hadn’t thought of before.

Different farms will do things differently. That’s part of the value.

Sometimes someone else in the room has already worked through what you’re dealing with. Sometimes they’re working through it right alongside you.

And the conversation doesn’t end when the coffee does.

Between coffees, the room stays open. Ask a question. Share something you’re working through. Get another perspective when you need it.

You don’t have to share private numbers or family details to be part of the conversation.

AREAS WE RETURN TO

WHAT WE’LL WORK ON

The Foundry is ongoing, and the topics aren’t fixed.

We’ll work on the parts of the farm business that carry weight, with specific topics that can change as agriculture — and the needs of the room — change.

COMMON QUESTIONS

DO I NEED TO HAVE EVERYTHING ORGANIZED BEFORE I JOIN?

No. That’s part of why we’re here.

You don’t need perfect records, organized files or every number at your fingertips. We’ll work through that as we go.

DO I NEED TO KNOW ALL OF MY NUMBERS?

No. Sometimes figuring out which numbers we should know — and where to find them — will be part of the work.

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I EXPECT TO SPEND BETWEEN COFFEES?

Some months, not much at all.

There might be a calculation to run, some information to find or something you want to put in place. More than anything, we want you thinking about the topic on your own farm and noticing what questions come up.

Like most things, the more you put into The Foundry, the more you’ll get out of it.

WHAT IF I CAN’T MAKE A COFFEE LIVE?

The sessions will be recorded, so you can catch up when it works for you.

And the Foundry community stays open between coffees. You can still ask questions, join the conversation and keep up with what’s happening.

DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN EVERY CONVERSATION?

No.

You can listen. You can ask questions. You can share what you’re comfortable sharing.

But we do think there is value in being part of the conversation. The more people are willing to compare notes and share what they’ve learned, the better the room becomes for everyone.

DO I HAVE TO SHARE PRIVATE FINANCIAL OR FAMILY INFORMATION?

No.

You decide what you’re comfortable sharing. You can work through your own numbers and circumstances without putting them in front of the room.

DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO USE AI?

No.

We’ll show you some practical ways we use it and help you get started. If AI isn’t your thing, that’s fine too.

IS THE FOUNDRY A REPLACEMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL ADVICE?

No.

Part of what we’re trying to do is help you understand enough to ask better questions and have better conversations with the professionals you already work with.

When you need advice specific to your operation, you should still talk to your own accountant, lawyer, lender, insurance professional or other advisor.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY FARM FILE WHEN THE YEAR ENDS?

It’s yours.

It lives in your own Google Drive. Everything you put into it stays with you, and you can keep adding to it long after your Foundry year is over.

WANT TO GO FURTHER?

THE BUILD

The Foundry is where we work on the business behind the farm.

Sometimes, though, you get the feeling that you’re ready for more.

It isn’t that what you’re doing isn’t enough. Or that you need to leave it behind.

You just know there are things you want to get better at. Ideas you want to build. More responsibility you’re ready to take on. And maybe a bigger impact you want to have on your operation and the people around you.

For a small number of people who want to take that further, The Build includes full access to The Foundry, plus two private meetings with Becky every month.

We’ll work together in four areas:

BRAND & MARKETING

Build the brand behind your operation. On your own terms.

LEADERSHIP

Be someone the farm can depend on.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

Better yourself. Work on the hard stuff.

BUILDING

From the ground up.

What we work on will depend on you — where you’re at, what you’re responsible for, what you want to get better at, and what you want to build.
